Having a natural desire to compete in athletics, but not being naturally fast as a high school athlete, Russ took it upon himself to learn and practice speed as much as he could in order to compete at the college level. Through his self education and hard work, he improved his 40 yard dash time from 4.78 seconds to 4.44 seconds and his vertical jump from 33" to 38". These improvements allowed Russ to walk on to the BYU Track Team in 2003 and the BYU Football Team in 2004, where he continued to learn and improve from an excellent coaching staff.
Having been through the speed improvement process himself, Russ deeply enjoys challenging the false notion that you can't teach speed. Debunking this myth through the improvements of his students is what Russ enjoys most about his job as a coach.
Russ is currently preparing to take the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Examination. He graduated from the BYU Marriott School of Business with a BS in Accounting. He is a native of Sandy, UT, where he lives today.
